The iPhone 3G
The Apple iPhone 3G is here and the one and only AT&T store in town has been camped out for the night, me included. I am back home to finally unwrap my phone and see what sort of useful and useless applications are worth installing. One of the first things i’ve noticed is how the new iPhone is a little more…squishier to the feel? Maybe it’s me but it feels a little softer, almost like if you sat on it, it would break into pieces. Therefore, a case is a necessity.
Many users have had the problem of activating their phones today. It seems Apple’s servers have crashed, which is pretty standard for a release day. I activated mine rather early so i was not confronted with that issue.
I could go on and on about the many applications worth installing but one that completely blew me away and I felt I had to mention is an app called Midomi, a voice recognition app which tells the title and artist of whatever song you sing to the iPhone. I first tested it’s technology with the Beegee’s “Stayin’ Alive” (No idea why that song was the first to pop into my head), then went on to try and stump it with David Bowie’s “Man Who Sold The World”. And yes I even did the “Der der der der Deeierr” because Midomi recognizes the instrumentals as well!
Monkey Ball was another insta-install, because I was really interested in the iPhone’s accelerometer, and it proves to hold up well. Twitterific was another obvious install for me because I’m always on the go, sending tweets. Apple’s Remote is awesome because it allows you to control your iTunes remotely, not to mention it’s free. A few other ones worth installing are AIM, Enigmo, and TypePad (if you’re a TyePad user).
That about wraps up my coverage of the new iPhone. This is just the beginning of many blog posts, podcasts, and news articles covering Apple’s new product. Enjoy!
